Requirements to Parasail:

The main physical requirements for parasailing involve withstanding the impact of bumpy boat rides, sitting comfortably in a harness, and handling sudden changes in wind or motion.

While specific policies vary by company, the following medical conditions will generally prevent someone from parasailing for safety reasons:

🤰 Pregnancy

  • Why: Expectant mothers are strictly prohibited from parasailing. The sudden acceleration, heavy vibrations from the boat hull hitting waves, and harness pressure on the abdomen pose severe risks.

🦴 Back, Neck, and Joint Issues

  • Why: Parasailing takes place on the open ocean or large lakes. Boat takeoffs, landings, and choppy waters cause frequent, unpredictable jolts that can easily reinjure or worsen a sensitive spine, neck, or weak joints.

  • Conditions include: Chronic back or neck pain, herniated discs, severe arthritis, or recent joint replacements.

🫀 Heart Conditions and High Blood Pressure

  • Why: The excitement and adrenaline spike of flying high in the air, combined with sudden motion, can cause severe stress on the cardiovascular system.

  • Conditions include: A history of heart attacks, pacemakers, unstable angina, or unmanaged high blood pressure.

🧠 Neurological Conditions & Seizure Disorders

  • Why: An individual must be conscious, stable, and able to follow crew safety instructions at all times. A medical episode while hundreds of feet in the air could make an emergency extraction incredibly difficult and dangerous.

  • Conditions include: Epilepsy or any condition that causes unpredictable fainting, dizziness, or loss of motor control.

🤕 Recent Surgeries or Physical Injuries

  • Why: Harness straps put significant pressure on the thighs, hips, and midsection during the flight. Fresh surgical wounds, unhealed fractures, or heavy casts can rupture or break under the stress.

👥 Mobility Limitations

  • Why: Participants must be physically capable of boarding a moving watercraft, sitting upright independently in a hanging harness, and holding onto the harness straps during flight.
